Great Western Mountain

Great Western spans about 1.5Km and it can be climbed from both ends. This is one of the toughest hikes in the hill country have to tackle sharp slopes to reach at the top.

The mountain contains Savana Lands, Montane & Sub Montane Ecology and has a rich bio diversity. Leopard, Fox, Hare, Monkeys; Wild Boar, Sambar Deer are recorded from the mountain.

On the top of Great Western there is a shrine and on Thaipongal day and Villagers hike to the top to do prayers and spiritual offering s to God Shiva. From the Top Nuwara Eliya Town & Surroundings, Nanu Oya & Surroundings Samanala Kanda & Seven Virgin Hills, Thalawakele and Pundalu Oya.
