Designed by Cecil Balmond (designer of London Olympics Orbit) and John Balmond, Palagama is inspired by how the local villagers live using natural materials but combining them with a contemporary edge. Almost two years in the making, working only with the villagers, this unique hotel in Kalpitiya was completed in late 2010. Using an eclectic mix of materials like cajan, illux and wood, you feel that you are a part of a Sri Lankan village which also has subtle Mediterranean influences. A small family run beach resort in Sri Lanka, where all the staff are handpicked, Palagama has a relaxed and laid back atmosphere. For us, it’s all about quiet sunsets, good, honest food and friendly faces.
